Automatic Chicken Feeder
A practical problem, with a physical response.
THE IDEA
A practical problem, with a physical response.
Work on a family farm made the problem concrete. A feeder needs to respond to the animal in front of it, not just dispense on a schedule.
What I built
A Raspberry Pi feeder using AI object detection, built to address unwanted animals taking chicken feed on the family farm.
Working with AI
This project is a starting point for the work I want to pursue next. An AI decision only becomes useful automation when sensing, timing, hardware and safe operation work together under real conditions.
A QUICK DEMO
From a camera image to a feeder decision
Try the project with a small, deliberate experiment.
Mechanism overview based on my project description · not a field-test recording
The camera provides an image of the animal near the feeder.
Object detection informs the decision about when the feeder should dispense.
The physical dispenser is the next link in the system. Field reliability and measured performance need separate testing.
PROJECT SCOPE
What to know.
- Personal prototype described on my LinkedIn profile. No measured field-performance results are presented.
- This page is a mechanism walkthrough; it does not show live hardware or claim a deployment-ready system.
Project identity and description are supported by my public professional profile. No new hardware test has been performed for this portfolio. See verification notes →
